Have you ever lost something of great value? We’ve all lost stuff that is usually replaceable, but I’m asking if you have ever lost something that was extremely valuable and it meant a great deal to you? I misplace my keys lots, but I pray and lo and behold, there they are! Hanging right where my wife put them after tidying up!
Jesus tells a series of stories about lost sheep, a lost coin and a lost son. In each case the object was found and it brought great rejoicing to the heart of the victim of loss. The lost sheep was found because the shepherd left the 99 sheep who were safe and sound and went in search of the one lost sheep. The one was of such value he was willing to risk his life in search of it. He brought it home, safe and sound. The lost son came home, after wasting his entire fortune, to find his father accepting and forgiving him.
Dad was just so happy to have his boy home and said, “Bring out the best robe and put it on him, and put a ring on his hand and sandals on his feet. 23And bring the fatted calf here and kill it, and let us eat and be merry; 24for this my son was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’” The heart of the Lord rejoices when you come home!
