“Is it really supposed to be this difficult? Wasn’t the Christian life supposed to be one that was free of difficulty?” “Whoa, whoever told you that?” “Well, no one told me that, but I assumed life would be better as a believer than it was as a sinner!”
Life is really better as a follower of Jesus because you have Him as your guide, your Hope, your strength and oh so much more. This person went on to say that they still struggled with some areas of sin and it felt like sometimes there was a war going on inside. So, let’s talk for a moment about what’s going on and the various battles happening. There are numerous battlefronts happening simultaneously. Let’s look at the internal one, which is happening right in your soul.
Paul says this, “For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another so that you do not do the things that you wish.” That means your old way of thinking and behaving is at war with the new life in the Spirit and His way of leading you to think and act. His way leads to the fruit of the Spirit and the old way leads to … check out Galatians 5:19-21. (the works of the flesh.) Victory is found in verse 16 – “Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.”
