For as long as anyone can remember, people from everywhere (every tribe, culture, language group, color or ethnicity) have cried out for Peace. The breakout of conflict and war happens so continuously it is barely a generation or perhaps a decade that sees no War.
Do remember the “hippies” of the sixties and seventies who held up the two fingers in a “v” shape and greeted everyone with “peace brother!” I know that their great cause was a reaction to what many called an unjust and unnecessary war, but nonetheless, it was a cry for peace. We often are led to believe that peace can only occur when conflict subsides, war ends and troubles cease.
What if peace is not an event but is actually a Person? Paul said about Jesus that, “He Himself is our Peace!” He’s referred to by Isaiah as “the Prince of Peace!” Jesus Himself promised peace and said, “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” Robbed of peace we are left with anxiety, fear, sleeplessness and other symptoms, but the peace of Jesus that He promised is not dependant on favourable situations. He gives peace in the midst of the most severe storms of life. Receive His peace this advent season and allow Him to fulfill what He came to do in you.
