There are so many incredible lessons to be learned from David’s whole approach to life and especially how he fought off the enemies of Israel. At the end of his life he had secured every border and turned a kingdom at peace with its enemies over to his son Solomon. What was the secret of David’s success? David sought the Lord over all his battle decisions and waited for God’s direction.
It says, “So David inquired of the Lord, saying, “Shall I go up against the Philistines? Will You deliver them into my hand?”.” David never entered into battle without first asking God for direction. We are all promised guidance if we truly seek God. “The steps of a good man are ordered of the Lord!” I love the verse in Isaiah 58 which says, “The Lord will guide you continually, and satisfy your soul in drought, and strengthen your bones; You shall be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail.”
When there is spiritual drought all around you God promises you will be satisfied and receive direction. In Samuel’s day it says that the Word of the Lord was rare in those days, but guess what, Samuel heard from God and received guidance. So David was led into constant victory because he chose to inquire of the Lord. Do you need victory? What should you do?
