The third thing Paul wanted us to know after we had our eyes opened was to know the Greatness of His Power.
Now, I know that we must look at the resurrection power that the text in Ephesians talks about, but for a moment can we consider a different kind of power. MEEKNESS. Did I just refer to meekness as power? Yup!
Close your eyes for a moment and picture Jesus riding into the capital city of Jerusalem for the Passover Celebration sitting on the colt of a donkey. Matthew tells us this was something Zacharias prophesied about. “Tell the daughter of Zion, ‘Behold, your King is coming to you, Lowly, and sitting on a donkey, a colt, the foal of a donkey.’” One word stands out to me and it’s the word “lowly”.
If Jesus had been riding on a white horse it would have suggested He was there to conquer and rule, but He came riding on a donkey. All power and authority resided in this amazing Son of God and yet He came “lowly, riding on a donkey”.
The ship, “The Queen Mary” came into harbour once and the tug boats were on strike, so the Captain and ship’s coxswain brought the ship up against the wharf unassisted. That had never been done before because there was too much power. Meekness is power under control. That’s what we have in Jesus riding on a donkey as the mighty King … power under control!
